Little River State Beach Beachgrass Removal

Join dedicated locals and naturalists as they weed out encroaching European beachgrass, which has displaced native species for decades. The remediation is intended to help protect rare plants and animals, such as coastal wildflowers and Western Snowy Plovers.

To reach the beach, five miles north of McKinleyville on Hwy 101, take the Crannell Road exit and head west to the beach frontage road. It will be the first parking lot on your left. It is adjacent to the southbound HWY 101 entrance. Organized by the California State Park’s North Coast Redwoods District.

Geology of Trinidad Beach

Learn the stories rocks can tell, led by Danny O’Shea, HSU Geology and Oceanography Lecturer. Danny is skilled at helping students of all levels relate to and understand the processes that shape the coast and create the dramatic
landscapes we enjoy.

Dress for the weather and enjoy this introduction to the geology and habitats of Trinidad State Beach during winter low tide when many of the rocks are more exposed. The walk will meet at the Memorial Light House across from Trinidad Beach. Reservations required, call 677-2501 to reserve your space. Sponsored by the Trinidad Coastal Land Trust.
